'Twas the last night of October
A pumpkin was purchased,
Redback cobwebs were found
Candies were nestled in a bowl by the door,
Christmas Santas abound
Cupcakes were made,
dyed-orange, and iced with great care.
And while no trick-or-treaters came,
We still did our thing,
dressed in animal masks,
and watched Halloween.
With some friends and some cheer,
which reeks oddly of beer,
we celebrated All Hallows' Eve.

Some kids are starting to trick or treat but I didn't see any in my area.
Plus, every Australian I know calls it "that American holiday." Then I have to explain how some variation of it is celebrated in many parts of the world, such as Fasching in Germany and El Día de los Muertos in Mexico, and that it's rooted in ancient Celtic tradition, but yeah whatever, that American holiday.
However, I can see how costs would be prohibitive in Australia, that little bowl of candy cost about the same amount that a pillowcase full in the U.S. would! And it was Cadbury too ....
nasty.
:-p
